Do You Receive Multiple Magazines?
How to put spare issues to good use
Many Toastmasters receive duplicate copies of the Toastmaster magazine each month due to multiple club memberships or family members who are also in clubs. You may be tempted to throw out the extra issues. Please don’t! You’re throwing away a terrific free marketing resource for your club.
Choices, Choices!
There are several ways those extra magazines can bring new members into your club. The easiest choice is to donate them to your club directly to give to visitors. That way, guests can take home something colorful and tangible to help them decide and perhaps even discuss Toastmasters with their friends. Or you can give one to your library, hospital or doctor’s office – virtually any place with a waiting room. Some energetic members donate spare issues to their local courthouse for use in the jurors’ waiting room. There’s only one rule of thumb: It’s always a good idea to ask permission of any office staff before leaving copies.
Cover your personal mailing address with a stick-on label that offers your club’s contact information. Make sure you mention the day, time and place of your meetings in bold, bright letters.
If you prefer, the magazines can be shipped directly to an address of your choice. Simply contact World Headquarters and ask to have that extra copy redirected to another address. It can be sent directly to a local library, friend or business associate. To make this request, please send an e-mail to membership@toastmasters.org with your name and club number as well as the new name and address. A staff member will make sure your magazine gets a new home.
